In today’s world, sustainability isn’t just a trend — it’s a necessity.
The FoodTuristic project addresses sustainability by helping the hospitality and culinary sectors evolve. This EU-funded initiative focuses on equipping people with practical green skills in reducing food waste, growing more food locally, and understanding circular economy principles. The project promotes sustainable practices in people's daily lives.
Through this project, food education becomes a key part of building a more environmentally responsible future.
What is FoodTuristic exactly? Come take a closer look!
FoodTuristic is a EU-funded project that addresses the lack of green technology curriculum in European culinary and hospitality schools. The project aims to educate people about food waste, localised food growing and the circularity of food. It's about giving students and educators the tools, knowledge, and inspiration to make the food sector greener, starting from managing food waste sustainably.
Some of the technologies that are tested and recommended in the project offer ways to track, prevent, and repurpose food waste, for example, food composter that turns food waste into fertiliser within 24 hours, My Gug that turns food waste into gas, and AI powered food bin that tracks what and how much of food waste goes into the bin. And some tools or technologies help with campus food growing, for example, products like Indoor Gardening, Shrooly, and Micro-sprouts that enable indoor plants and mushroom growing.
These innovations help users:
Save money
Reduce their carbon footprint
Build more efficient kitchens and schools
Raise awareness and accountability in real time
And most importantly, these changes bring a positive environmental impact.
The project empowers people and organisations not just to reduce food waste, but to lead the way in building a circular, sustainable future.
